We’re excited to present the new WAVE XS.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, we have become much more aware of the importance of good hygiene. WAVE XS removes the risk of infection as there is no physical contact with the reader. At the same time, WAVE XS will not get worn down as other activation points. The new WAVE XS can be installed and used for many different purposes, e.g. as exit button to open a door, to turn on the light, call for an elevator – just a few among many other options.

Some of the many features are:

Reading distance can be set between 1-25 cm

Time of activation can be set to 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds or to toggle mode (or up to 240 seconds via software)

Choose design – E.g. the text “EXIT” or 6 different symbols like a door, hand or lock

Upload your own symbol, text or image (requires software)

WAVE XS is available in both black and white with label and frame for mounting. The reader is easily programmed on-site using four dip switches located on the back. If you want your own design, you can use the included software.

WAVE XS SOFTWARE

The WAVE XS software gives you endless possibilities to design the reader according to your wishes and needs.

You can upload your own icon (120×120 px) or your own image (240×240 px). This can e.g. be your or your customer’s logo. You can also insert text of up to 3 lines (with a limited number of characters).

In addition, you can also choose what color the light ring should have in the display, both as default and when activated. In the software you can also switch the buzzer on / off, as well as set the activation time and reading distance.

The PC program for WAVE XS can be downloaded directly and free of charge under the “downloads” page on our website.

Could WAVE XS be something for you and your customer? Then do not hesitate to give us a call on tel. +45 72 40 60 03 or write to us on info@conlan.dk

Here lives a family of five who in 2016 would rent out their basement to utilize the home’s square meters.

WHY – To access the basement, the tenants must go through the back door. The family and the tenants thus share the same entrance at the back of the house. Therefore, the family was looking for a solution on how they could give the tenants access to the basement without them also having access to the family’s private residence.

WHAT – It was important for the family to keep the architectural style of the house. However, it was not entirely straightforward to find an access control solution where the solution only sat on one side of the door, says Michael Goth-Rindal. Together with CONLAN’s CEO, Ejner Hansen, the family found a solution where they could both preserve the old door and at the same time avoid pulling wires for electricity.

The CT1000 keypad is installed on the back door of the house, giving both family and tenants keyless access to the house. In addition, the C1000LP keypad is installed on the front door of the private home, where the solution is only visible from the side of the staircase. From the inside of the house, you can not see that the door is powered by a keypad.

The keypad on the front door of the private residence is battery powered, meaning the old door could remain, without the pull of wires. As the keypad is a low power device, the keyboard can go through many cycles before the battery needs to be replaced. The family changes the battery themselves, and the keyboard tells when it’s time.

BENEFITS – With this solution, the family can access their home, completely without the need for keys.

“We are really happy with our solution. It works and is a flexible system that we can easily handle ourselves,” says Michael Goth-Rindal.

In addition, the family also uses the keypads’ daycode function. This allows them to create a code to e.g. the cleaning, which only works the one day. With this, the family has full control over who has access to the house and when.

Installation

CT1000 reader on back door – A standalone reader with code. Possibility of up to 28 user codes. The keypad can also be connected to the alarm, so that the alarm is switched off at the same time as the door is unlocked.

C1000LP reader on the entrance door for the private home – Reader with code and low power consumption for access control. Several options for access with codes, including one-time, day and period codes that are active from 1-28 days. In addition, the keypad can be powered by both battery or wired power.

Since the early 80’ies, Wiegand has been the most common communication protocol between access control units. Wiegand is known as a reliable and user-friendly protocol, however, Wiegand does have a number of weaknesses. With today’s increased security needs, these are becoming more and more critical.

One of the more severe problems with the Wiegand protocol is unencrypted communication. The protocol’s limited bandwidth and inability to offer bi-directional communication are also issues that encourage access control professionals to seek out other options.

Proprietary Protocols

Many professionals within the security industry have worked around these weaknesses by developing their own proprietary protocols. However, this approach has its own set of limitations. The amount of testing and maintenance is a major issue for many companies. Add to that the difficulties these companies encounter, when they need to connect their device to that of another producer, and it becomes evident that a better solution should be sought.

These are some of the reasons why SIA have developed the OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol).

OSDP – Reliable Protocol

The OSDP protocol eliminates the need to develop, test and maintain your own proprietary protocol. The OSDP is thoroughly tested and maintained by SIA, who are also making the necessary test tools available to users. Additionally, SIA offers an encrypted version of the OSDP, thereby ensuring that the protocol meets the highest security standards.

Exiting Possibilities with OSDP

The OSDP is able to transmit large amounts of data which in itself opens up a wide range of possibilities. Since the protocol also enables easy integration between systems from different producers, new and exciting solutions are now within reach. Smart buildings and industry management systems are just a few of the areas in which we may see the OSDP used to integrate systems from various suppliers.

Perhaps even more interesting is the fact that the OSDP enables bi-directional communication and read/write capabilities.

OSDP Access Control

We are certain that OSDP is the future of access control, and we have developed a number of access control readers (PIN, proximity, Bluetooth, mifare, fingerprint) and a display using the OSDP protocol. If you would like to know more, you are more than welcome to contact us at 0045 72 40 60 03.

At larger DYI markets, a large number of customers come driving through every day to collect substantial batches of goods at various locations. How do you ensure that all the customers pay for their goods if the payment is not always effected at the exit?

Payment Control with Day Codes

At Bygma in Aalborg SV, Denmark, they had to face exactly that challenge. The area for goods collection is large and hard to overview and various staff members handle different kinds of goods. So, as a rule, it is not one employee, who follows the customer across the area.

Therefore, the company recently installed two CP1000 readers in order to ensure that customers do not leave the area without paying for their goods. In order to open the barrier and leave the area, today, you have to type in a pin code at a CP1000 code keypad. The code is handed out during payment and is only valid on the same day. The code changes automatically at midnight. The two readers have been installed at two different heights in order to match motorcars and trucks.

Day Codes in Print

The day codes come from a small software programme and are printed once a month so that they are always available when they are needed. This way, it is also possible to hand out the codes to specific recurring customers for a longer time and thus simplify life for the driver and the Bygma staff. In addition, the day code can be looked up directly on the PC. All the CP1000 readers are also equipped with one-time-only codes that are deactivated after use.

… or Via an App

When you use a CP1000 with day codes, an app is supplied, which quite simply shows the day code. At Bygma, the app is used by the warehouse manager, Nick Fredberg, so that he can always get the day code when he moves around in the area. Also, the app can send the day code to a mobile phone or to an e-mail account.

CP1000 offers a lot of opportunities for time-limited pin codes, so if you find the solution interesting for you or your customers, please feel welcome to contact us for more information on the task.

Add your own imprint to your access control reader. When you buy access control readers from us, you can design both the front labels and frames of your access control reader – with or without code keypad. This offers a large number of opportunities for promoting your own company or to create a unique design matching the area where the reader is to be installed.

Promote Your Company

Since all our code keypads work with capacitive touch without physical buttons, the entire front label is available for your design. You can choose colours and fonts that match your company and you can add graphics as a background between the keys.

Many of our customers take the option of adding their own logo to the front label. The Mykey readers of the 1½ module do not offer much space but you can still get a really nice result as shown in the photo examples. Some customers also choose to use the asterisk key for their logo.

Quality Print in Several Colours

Our subcontractor assists you with the label design, which naturally will be available to you for acceptance prior to production. They print in the RAL or Pantone colours selected by you and with the logo handed in by you (.ai/.eps). The print will be added to the backside of the film so that the colours are not subjected to wear or fade over time. All the front labels are easy to clean and can be offered with a matte or glossy surface.

The Right Frames

You can also design the reader itself in order to obtain a perfect match with the area where it is to be installed. We provide both front labels and frames in the colours stated by you, so that they fit exactly with the door frames or other relevant surfaces, for instance. The frames can also get an extra strong layer of varnish, if this is relevant.

In fact, your imagination is the limit! Please contact us for further information or inspiration on how to create your own unique design.

You may have noticed that banks have increasingly started to issue payment cards including an NFC chip? At the same time, supermarkets and the like increasingly provide the opportunity for you to pay smaller amounts via contactless transfer. The new cards, in fact, contain a MIFARE signal and therefore, the same cards can be used for access control via a MIFARE reader.

New Access Possibilities

Mostly, the new payment cards mean that many will be able to do without the usual MIFARE access cards. This will be especially relevant in companies where the employees have payment cards as well as MIFARE access in the company. But apart from the fact that it is, of course, nice to have one less card to remember, the new payment cards also offer the possibility of a very safe two-way communication with the reader. This is due to the possibility of using encrypted communication via DESFire.

Encrypting Possibilities

The usual MIFARE readers just read the serial number of the MIFARE card and via the number determine whether the card grants access or not. However, the new payment cards also include encrypted information – an encryption key – which some MIFARE readers can decode and recognise. This then results in a closed-circuit system with two-way communication between the card and the reader in the same way as when the card is used for payment.

What Does Conlan Offer?

Conlan’s MIFARE/DESFire readers can be delivered including a MIFARE card for encrypted communication if desired. We have supplied this solution to a number of customers who emphasise on the extra security offered by a closed circuit system. Our standard MIFARE readers (M1000, M1200, CM1000, CM12000) have not been set up for encrypted communication, and therefore you should absolutely contact us if you want to order readers with encrypted communication. MIFARE/DESFire readers naturally come with the same beautiful design as our other readers.

OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol) is an international standard communications protocol that allows units such as access control readers to communicate with other safety units or systems – such as door controllers. The protocol has been developed and is maintained by SIA (Security Industry Association) in order to promote opportunities for communication between security units and systems of various origins.

Why choose OSDP?

There are many valid reasons for choosing access control with OSDP when safety has top priority. Lars Juul-Olsen, Managing Director at Techsolutions, chose to develop their new controller TechPoint with OSDP:

OSDP offers freedom of choice of readers for high-security installations. The communication between readers and the controller can be encrypted, which is of high importance, since the readers are, after all, mostly installed outside of the safeguarded area. As a developer of door controllers, you save development costs, since you do not have to develop proprietary protocols for various card readers,

says Lars.

Conlan access control with OSDP

Today, a number of Conlan access control readers can be delivered with OSDP. Among other things, the Mykey reader – CM – and our display. Our readers with OSDP are called 3002 – e.g. CM3002. Many of our other readers can also be delivered with OSDP, so if you want ODSP readers, contact us and hear about the choices.

In August 2014, the stunning new health school in Thisted, West Denmark was ready to welcome a new set of students. No detail is left to chance in the architectural structure – even the 39 access control readers installed by Dan Group Alarm, Karl Mikkelsen are incorporated into the building’s design.

Karl Mikkelsen has worked with readers from Conlan since the mid 90ies and estimates a count of 12-1300 readers installed.

In Thisted, we have installed the M1200 and CM 1200 readers from Conlan – that is mifare readers with and without keypads. To manage access to the building, we have installed the NOX system,

says Karl.

Usability

The criteria for selecting a security system for the health school were largely focused on usability for employees at the school.

I often work with the NOX system, because the user interface is so intuitive. You don’t need to be a technician to operate it. And Conlan’s readers work seamlessly with the system. This is one of the reasons I chose them for this job.

Design

However, usability was not the only factor determining the best solution in Thisted.

Conlan’s new Mykey line has a clean and modern design. This is something the end users really value.

More options with mifare

Additionally, the mifare readers offer varied functionality.

The mifare technology lets you combine a number of parameters. For instance, you can enter a building, pay at the cafeteria and take out library books, all via the same mifare card. I believe this will become even more popular in the future.

Recently Jes Stokholm at Ølby Electrical Services received an unusual request from Østermark Entreprenørforretning, who provide contractor services all over Europe.

At Østermark they had experienced an increase in theft of machinery. They had decided that what they needed was some sort of immobilisation, and so they asked us to work on a solution,

says Jes.

Theft of machinery

The problem for Østermark was that many of the machines, they use, are produced with identical ignition keys. So if you possess just one key, you have access to several machines of that kind. At Ølby Electrical Services they were familiar with the issue, but at the time they had no experience in solving it.

At first, we called Lemvigh Müller and a few others to see if anyone had a solution to this issue. Through Lemvigh Müller we got in contact with Conlan, and we quickly agreed that we would work on a solution together,

explains Jes.

Immobilisation through access control

Today Ølby Electrical Services have delivered 20 immobilisers to Østermark. They make sure, that none of the machines are able to start unless you have both the ignition key and a transponder for the access control system.

It has been an interesting job for us and something completely new. Fortunately, we have very skilled people working here, who have been able to understand the issue and together with Conlan, we have found a solution,

says Jes.

If you would like to know more about using access control for immobilisation, please call us at +45 72 40 60 03 or write us.
